In Tune
When I design for a client I always develop several designs. The designs usually represent two or more different directions, giving the clients more choices. In Tune was a close second that I felt would be great one to do and show around.
On my lumber rack I had a couple of thick curly maple boards that I was saving for about a dozen years, just waiting for the right design that would show off the beautiful grain. The legs and stretchers were first band sawed and then hand shaped with spoke shaves and scrapers. The challenge was to make all four legs look identical. The ebony I used to accent the design was rescued from an old dump located next to a sawmill 25 years ago that I save for special pieces and use sparingly.
I decided to offer a glass top to In Tune. I chose a glass top to better showcase the form of the legs. I am now adding several additional ebony details that will be seen through the glass.
